Scanclimber Mast Climbing Work Platforms for Façade Installation at Aarhus Docklands

The transformation of Aarhus Docklands (Aarhus Ø), Denmark, is one of Scandinavia’s most ambitious waterfront redevelopment projects. Former industrial harbour areas are being reimagined as a vibrant mixed-use district featuring modern residential buildings, commercial spaces, and architecturally complex waterfront structures.

Project Overview

Delivering these striking façades required a high-capacity mast climbing work platform capable of transporting heavy façade materials while providing safe, efficient access to challenging building geometries.
To meet these demands:

6 x Scanclimber Monster SC8000 Mast Climbing Work Platforms were deployed, equipped with

2.0 m Sliding Deck Extension (SDEs)

Adjusting Consoles for Telescopic Pipes

Construction

The Challenge

Constructing modern waterfront buildings presents unique access challenges. The project required installers to transport heavy façade materials while working on complex building elevations featuring façade offsets, deep recesses, balconies, and varying installation distances.

Traditional access methods like scaffolding would have required frequent repositioning and additional lifting equipment, impacting productivity and installation efficiency.

The project also demanded:
Safe transportation of heavy façade panels, tiles and installation material
Extended horizontal reach for recessed façade sections
Flexible positioning of deck extensions and guard railing
Continuous use of power tools directly at the working level
Reduced mast ties to maximize façade accessibility

The Solution

To overcome these challenges, six Scanclimber Monster SC8000 mast climbers were installed across the project.

Overcoming the Access Challenge

The combination of high payload capacity, horizontal deck reach, and flexible platform configuration allowed installers to complete façade work with fewer interruptions and greater precision.

The combination of high payload capacity, horizontal deck reach, and flexible platform configuration allowed installers to complete façade work with fewer interruptions and greater precision.

Heavy materials were transported directly to the working level, difficult-to-reach façade sections became easily accessible, and onboard power allowed installation teams to cut and fit façade components without leaving the platform.

The result was a streamlined installation process that maximized productivity while maintaining safe and ergonomic working conditions.
